Tip Top is a gold mine located outside of Hailey, Idaho. It mainly consists of several large tailing piles. There are National Forest Service signs outlining a recent claim in the area. I was involved in an accident while attempting to visit this mine that required a tow truck recovery of my Jeep.
Directions
This mine is located down Croy Canyon and over Richardson Summit. The road to the mine is fine but if you take a wrong turn you can end up in very soft sand. This resulted in my Jeep slowly rolling over. We were unable to self-recover and had to get an off-road tow truck involved to recover the vehicle. It’s certainly possible to safely visit this mine. Just be careful.
